A professional pest spray is one of the most effective ways to protect your home, but a little preparation can help you get the best result. Knowing what to do before, during, and after the treatment can make the process smoother, safer, and more effective.

Before the pest spray start by following any instructions provided by your pest technician. In most cases, this means clearing access to skirting boards, under sinks, and around problem areas such as kitchens, laundries, and bathrooms.
Put away food, cover food preparation surfaces, and store pet bowls, toys, and bedding out of the treatment area. It is also a good idea to vacuum floors and tidy clutter so the technician can treat all the right spots properly. If you have pets, make arrangements to keep them safely away during the treatment.
During the pest spray, keep children and pets out of the home or away from treated areas, depending on the advice given for the product being used. The technician may be spraying inside, outside, or both, and it is important not to disturb the process.
Try not to walk through wet treatment areas or wipe surfaces that have just been sprayed. Your pest professional will let you know when it is safe to re-enter or move back through the home.
After the pest spray, wait the recommended time before returning to treated spaces. Once back inside, open windows to allow fresh air through. Avoid deep cleaning treated areas straight away, as this can reduce the effectiveness of the spray. In many cases, you should leave skirting boards, corners, and external perimeter treatments undisturbed for as long as possible. Keep an eye out for pest activity in the days following, as it can take time for the treatment to fully work.
With the right preparation and follow-up, a pest spray can give your home longer-lasting protection and greater peace of mind.
